What's The Point of Principle?
If popularity dictates policy, is being principled a temptation of the past?
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. You should never meet your heroes. There’s a reason that these sayings stand the test of time. In politics, the failure of principles is more the rule than the unique story. At the end of the day, principles will always succumb to, well, politics. Politicians only care about three things, getting elected, getting reelected, and getting elected to higher office, and more often than not that means sacrificing their principles to seek popularity with those in power who can grant them the favors of relevance.
Whether it is Bill Weld endorsing Hillary Clinton, Dave Smith endorsing Blake Masters, or Tulsi Gabbard endorsing Don Bolduc, at the end of the day, the real question is, is there a place for principles in politics, to begin with?
This isn’t a topic we need to discuss at length, but maybe the role of Libertarians in forcing accountability is. But I’m not the one who wrote the post you need to read about that. Check out this post by my good friend Reed Coverdale, “Extorting Republicans”

Summary
Tulsi Gabbard once stood on principle and bucked the Democratic Establishment to stand as an agent of change. But now she stands alongside those who stand for everything she claimed to hate. Is it a search for relevance, or a political play at something down the road? Two former Gabbard 2020 staffers, Reed and David, join the show to talk about the turn of events that has seen Tulsi forgo her own principles.
